Downtown with Dominique:
I endured a few hours with the sailor that day.
(I know you are reading this right now)
Domi thinks her mom is actually Jewish,
hates talking about everything,
makes bubbly noises and acts like a gilled fish,
and demands to know if "that movie the one about the whimsical French chick"
(and gets lied to because its actually about Amelia Ear<3)she wanted peaches so we went to the Farmer's Market
I WANT TO KEEP BEES really bad.

The weather was so lovely today.
I sat on the grassy knoll and brainstormed for my paper.
I should invest in an outdoors-y picnic blanket.

After core, Jeffy and I attempted to climb Tree Nine
but we couldn't find it..
(typical, i know)
But it was a nice walk:

thrifted can for my precious.

Did you know that possums have evolved the ability to consume just about anything?
Even undies left on the floor after the first rain.

Every Wednesday at 7:40 am, I sit/stand on the bus as it maneuvers
through a dense forest to get to my psych discussion on the other side of campus.

After that, I usually have 14 minutes to get to my next class.
Today, the bus didn't come for 4 minutes.
So that left me 10 minutes to scramble to Chelsey's
(my very humorous, intelligent, and admirable TA) classroom.

I like her because she knows what she's talking bout,
talks really fast and makes sure we get what we're supposed to get in the time we get,
says whatever she wants, & no one messes with her.
Not even homegirl who eats popcorn with butter.
Then I played with a monkey skull.

"hey linda, can you hand me that beaver?"-kevin

"Who here hasn't heard of Jane Goodall?"
No one raised their hand.

My anthropology professor, Adrienne Zihlman
worked with Jane in the 60s!

She mentioned it so modestly in class
and showed us pictures of Jane and her standing in an forest,
wearing khaki suits and a camera
observing primates in Africa.

I normally really dislike posting pictures other people took,
but I suppose this once is okay:
:)

Today someone said something very sweet to me and
it made me :)
yes yes, it did.

I woke up and saw the rain droplets dripping
from the wooden pillars out on "my" balcony.

Maybe making realistic homework goals would be helpful, so I am.
After core, I went to the mail room and
got the package my mom sent me! It included:
1.many packets of miracle herbal medicine shipped from China from my g-ma
2. a bunch of these "Vegan Trios" and a scmancy chocolate bar from my sister
3. My Scientific American Magazine!!(it'll help me write my anthro paper)
4. and my PRECIOUS PRISMACOLOR colored pencils:
now I have 4 shades of yellow!
for coloring mammalian dentition.

Oh and I found out my dad added a
Santa Cruz weather update onto his iphone.
hehe.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros sound so wonderful live.
What a beautiful night at the haunted Brookdale Lodge.

Alex's soul-full deep soothing voice
and Jade's genuinely happy smile
(and eyeshadow glitter)
5 feet away from me!
"hey alex? Can you sit here so I can take a picture of you?"

I am becoming a Genesis Expert.
We played Bible Jeopardy in Core today,
and I got every question correct!

Then I went to a pumpkin patch:
BE DIFFERENT!!
Then I went to Crossroads(a consignment store) and got this new bag
for 10 dollaz!
I just got back from bible study(don't ask, it's required)

It is now raining.
Which means naked people will be running around pretty soon.
[edit: there they go. I saw lots of butts]

"Welcome to molecular wonderland"
says Prof. Zilhman's text book
I am happy to be a Geneticist's daughter and have
someone who can explain protein synthesis over the phone to me
as I sit in the [recently vandalized] downstairs lounge
panicking while trying in trying to
make sense of this ridiculous self coloring book
of a text book.

that's my dinner for tonight.
I am not willing to venture out into the bleak cold darkness
for the dining hall.
I chased a squirrely-whirrly
and stole this from him.

I just discovered that the window above my bed OPENS.
I can climb out onto the small balcony.
Or I can sit on the pillows,
dangle my legs and watch the sky.

(Not really, just California)
but I get to meet Edward next week!

"Baby spiders travel by a process called ballooning,
in which they emit a small thread and float on the wind"
we as humans should evolve to be able to do this.
how convenient would it be
for me to get from Stevenson to Oakes
and back to Social Sciences in twenty minutes!
...tomorrow will be a disaster...

Monday, October 05, 2009

there is a spoon inside my printer.
& the dining hall food's quality/selection
is decreasing at an exponential decay.

Sunday, October 04, 2009

I have just risked death by climbing on top of the cabinet
to close the window.
Now hopefully, it won't be 30 degrees in our room anymore.
But my toes are still freezing.

Now that I've miraculously completed 4 hours of straight studying,
time to dew the lawndry!

here's the 2nd most beautiful twig in the world:
what a strange 48 hours..
and it said to me,
"You are free".

Thursday, October 01, 2009

what a busy day..

As Nadya and I walked to the Stevenson Library for our late night studying,
we spotted a cute little furry raccoon,
devouring a slice of pizza
under a redwood.

it's october.
my, how time flies.

I deserve some sleep
:)

"My mom made me bring my flute. She said I could play it in the woods"
-Dominique
Misery is trying to sleep when your floor mates are being loud and having a partee.
Misery is when you go to sleep at 3:00am and wake up at 7:00am.
Misery is when you try so hard to stay awake in your anthropology lecture.

Happiness is when you get back to your room,
crawl into your nice cozy bed
and beat back misery into your dreams .
(in a two hour nap)

so now it holds chargers/electronic cords.

I had my first REAL COLLEGE LECTURE :)
(Anthro1. Intro to Human Evolution)
at 8:00 am this morning and walked out smiling and very happy.

Professor Zihlman stood in front of 400 students
and her voice echoed across the lecture hall.
She's all about hand-eye coordination(hence the coloring book) and visuals
so we were shown a rather humorous Nova special
about flower evolution and fossil records.
Did you know that the straighter the veins of a leaf are, the more modern a flower it is?

The more she talked about the class, the more excited I got.
My psych&religion class starts in 2 hours so
I'll head down to eat mah lunch.
speaking of food..
For breakfast, I had the most amazing lemon poppyseed muffin in the world.

this was my lunch yesterday.
It was scrumdidleyumcious.
We are so lucky the newly constructed Stevenson/Cowell
dining hall is open now.

After the Anthro. Orientation
(what a strange, intriguing, bizarre, but wonderfully
dedicated and passionate group of scholars),
calling my bank to clarify some issues,
skypping my mom, picking up my id card..
and going to a giant fall festival and getting a peace corp bag full of FREE STUFF
(mexican candy, flyers, pins, lunch, & LOTS OF ORGANIC TEAS AND SODAS)
it was time for the Boardwalk Frolic!

I almost threw up twice and stood in the bathroom stall
feeling horridly disoriented and sick
but then I bought a churro
and gave everyone a bite including myself.
then Jeffery insisted he needed ice cream
so we all wandered into town.
An old gypsy hobo woman said to me:
"got any change?"

We then used public transportation and rode the bus home.
I curled up into a ball in the back seat and fell asleep.

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

babyaga, matching pillows, and lumpus cousins.

Monday, September 21, 2009

I like slipping fruit from the dining hall into my bag.
I like putting up posters/prints using wall tac.
I like wearing the robot key around my neck.
I like wearing my shower slippers.
I like when the showers are not occupied.
I like how the bathroom is right outside our dorm.
I like how friendly everyone is.
I like how beautiful the campus is.
I like being warm and cozy in my bed
when it's freezing and foggy at night.
