the great [fire]wall of china prevented

my having access to blahger for a few days.

the other day, i took a stroll along The Great Wall.

(actually, it was a vigorious trek of literally climbing up and down

mountain slopes. at one point, i was crawling

up vertical stone steps on all fours).

then over the weekend, we went

to a very beautiful place:

i went to the namoc(national art museum of china)

with lulu and her self-timer today.

the rooms were mostly empty

(everyone was attending some

kind of ceremony in the lobby),

so i took many pictures of myself.

it was only afterwards, after lots of jumping,

i noticed there was a security guard in the corner,

watching.

after purchasing some bootlegged movies,

bill and i went to wangfujing's night market.

typical this place goes back 900 years.

some crosses.

some red. some old. some new.

my grandma and i went to the beijing zoo today.

just like we used to 17 years ago.

she kept on calling lemurs, "kitty cats".

a macaque stared and made faces at her.

a stray cat wandered around the elephant exhibit.

a girl fed a zebra carrots.

I now have three mosquito bites
on my pinkie's knuckle.
four on my face.
and ~eight on my arms/legs.

afternoon lighting:

it's humid, hot, sticky, and loud

here in the city.

bill is at work, and i'm sitting

in his apartment in a nice

air conditioned room,

about to eat a banana flavored popsicle.

here, cars don't have to watch for people.

people have to watch for cars.

yesterday, i took a walk.
yellow, purple, orange, white, and black
butterflies danced in the air.
gold dragonflies zoomed past my head.

wild dogs trotted down dusty roads.
sheep, chickens, pigs, and a donkey

baa-ed, ba-gawed, oinked, and stared.

"will he bite people?"

"no, but he might kick you"

i ate this for lunch:
the 12 hour plane ride wasn't that awful this time.
i popped my pills, and woke up 8 hours later.

I walked through the appliance/electronic section
at the thrift store, thinking
"i hope i find a camera!"

then i saw a black camera shaped box,
and opened it... :)

"he's old"

Hershel, the 14-year old golden retriever has
a hot-dog shaped tumor on his neck.
he also barks inappropriately,
and wants to play fetch with his red ball.
but we were told not to, because
he's old.

i don't know why, but i couldn't stop laughing
hysterically as he howled before his walk.

during his saunter, we met an old man who
started reminiscing about how he
"used to have a dog just like that"
but now the kids are all grown up.
he's all alone.

then i felt very sad,
and even sadder when Hershel's dark friendly eyes
looked at us as we locked the door behind us.
