* *DIY HALLOWEEN* *

i had so much fun making my

galactic head gear :D

also, i can't believe maryna was saturn!!!

no wonder the universe guided

us to become roommates :)))

starting last year, i festively decided to carve a

pumpkin every year from now on.

i didn't have fancy carving tools,

so i just used a butcher knife.

slightly dangerous, but it was worth it.

something about this fall weather makes me

want to cook a lot. i found a new farmer's

market and got 2 stalks of beets for $1!
and some apples, onions & spinach.

* * *

shirred eggs
(i added onions, garlic and scallions)

pumpkin cookies

(i skipped the glaze)

kabocha squash macaroni and cheese

~this was a joint effort, with maggie m
and her wonderful red dansk dutch oven.

bought a bunch of fun beer with vannie today.

we picked and chose to our heart's content

 of fall flavors~*~*~

judith developed these photos from our
pacific coast roadtrip and now they are decorating
her apartment in granada :)

it's kind of a nice feeling knowing there

is a picture of you hanging up on a wall

on the Spanish Moroccan border.

love this guy and proud of the amazing advocacy
work he is doing!

this was right before our 6 person slumber party where

we all consumed abnormal amounts of chocolate.

#"studying"abroad

ate some pancakes, hid from coyotes.

"Snow White was in medical school and so she

taught the dwarves the value of proper hygiene.”

“Sleeping Beauty enjoyed fashion but her true love was politics.”

“Tiana knew she had a bond with the prince but

she still didn’t want it to mess up her MBA.”

i've named this one

"mkondo"

after Anthony Doerr's short story Mkondo.

“We are morphed, changed and influenced by our physical environments, so for all you people out there ignoring it,

well.........sad for you."

after some soul searchin' & a great conversation

with Maggie & 11 words from Cathy,

i've decided to go forth!

i can't wait to indoctrinate my students

with media literacy, multiple perspectives approach,

and social justice ideology.

we will rise!

this is the reality for so many youth.

POC ARE hunted in this country; racial profiling
and institutionalized violence is absolutely alive

and we need to address and talk about it.

this makes me think of my students in seattle.

they deserve to feel safe, be seen, heard and happy
and grow up to become citizens of the world.
they get to learn to paint, sew, and read,
not learn how to hide.

the guy who subletted my room in santa cruz is now living in antarctica amongst penguins.

how fun is that!

http://everydayfeminism.com/

really really great site.

informative, entertaining and relevant!

scroll through, read some articles!

it is like an intersectionality wonderland

at your fingertips.

i didn't know this beforehand, but

mops makes an appearance in marcel's movie!

sometimes, i put on my velvet dress,
drink tequila, knit and text all my old
roomates. except my first one, who is now
far far away studying forced migration @ oxford :)
i like to think of her as a female arab nelson mandela.

once, i met michael pollan and asked him

what his favorite vegetable is

(kale "but tomatoes are good too,

and bitter greens").

today, maryna met neil patrick harris and asked him

what his favorite vegetable is

(brussel sprouts).

**firenze(florence)**

seeing the duomo also felt like a celebrity sighting.

it is the "first 'octagonal' dome in history to be

built without a temporary wooden supporting frame."

this is Michelangelo's original David!

the duomo is massive and envelops the sky when

you're standing in the narrow streets leading up to it.

we ate a lot of gelato (almost daily). i always

got coconut or some type of dark chocolate/fudge.

renaissance artists must have watched

the sunset from this bridge.

MY NEWEST HOBBY:

i suddenly remembered the existence of my

goodreads account.
